The Best Gift

My present to myself last year was a mother's ring, with my kids' birthstones and names engraved on the shank. It was sad because it was the first holiday I spent alone, since my kids were with their dad and his fiance out of state.

This year is better because I get to have my kids with me, and my babysitter/nanny/lifesaver surprised me with these:

I seriously just stand in the foyer and look at these and cry.

Best. Present. Ever.
She got my kids dressed and their hair combed (!), posed them in front of my pallet wall, and took all these pictures herself. Somehow they kept it a secret from me! I've never had "real" pictures taken of my kids using a camera that doesn't fit in my pocket. It's one of those things that I've wanted to do, but it seems the money is always needed elsewhere.

Then my daughter gave me a box and said it was her Christmas present to me:

It says "Look in the mirror and you will see a great mom".  I am very proud of the fact that she scavenged this mirror and all the bits and pieces for this box. ha ha.

I love them so much. My youngest is curled up in my bed snoozing right now, and I can hear the older two playing some game in the hallway.

Naturally I'm sitting here plotting the next project, to be completed ASAP:

I am not sure how to make this gallery idea work in my tiny stairwell, but worry not. I shall overcome.

  3. Katy that's the real meaning of Christmas right there in your post - so perfectly articulated. And I think those babysitters/nannies honestly deserve more credit than folks give them, kudos to yours for such an awesome present.

  5. What a gift and awesome your kids kept it to themselves. Know those holidays when our kids aren't with us. Mine are older...teens...this year it is dad's Christmas but they have decided they are not doing that anymore. They want to be with me. These are the moments when all we do comes back and we realize how appreciated we are. Your time will come, I'm sure. Happy Christmas to you and your kids :)
