I am awaiting word that demo is complete. God bless you sweet people that come to read this saga and cheer me on -- you really keep me feeling positive that this whole thing is NOT going to be a train wreck.

The cataloging continues!
We're scraping the bottom of the barrel here:
Lamp was dug out of a pile of junk in the backyard. It was broken into pieces and somebody glued it back together!

Who in their right mind saves a piece of crap like this and rewires it? Yeah, me.

I think I was just desperate to get as much as I could out of the shack to justify buying the place. As if this comes close to making up for the demolition - hahahahahaha!

Then, I decided that I should spray paint some matching BOOTIES on the vintage humidor!

Yeah excuse the horrible blackberry pictures at night. Just try to imagine this in a white room in a beach cottage. Or not. I may paint the legs back to match the rest.

Sometimes the phone puts random lines through my pictures. Is this because I've dropped it too many times? huh.

  1. Katy that little piece of sunshine is too cute and the legs on the humidor definitely add a bit of character. Pretty sure the ombre style of painting is on trend right now so I say keep it.

  2. I have loved just about every re-finishing job you've tackled. I have never seen a table painted like that. Now, I'll probably notice them all over. An yeah, the lines are probably from dropping the phone too much. Hard landings and electronics won't mix!

  3. I think it's awesome that you'll have things from the old shack in your new cottage. I can't wait for the building to begin!!! I wish I had a neighbor like you!

  4. I think it's adorbulous. And yes, I do think you are trying to get as much out of it as you can, but is that a bad thing?

I'm loving watching this all go down

  5. I love reading about your adventures. I also have a degree in engineering, but went on for a library science masters after. I read blogs for work looking for news and I have added you to my list and I save you for last. Dessert to my reading meal.

Love the shack. Love the finds. Love what you are doing.

Keep it up. We live vicariously through your adventures.

  6. Cool! I love that you dug this out of the backyard, what a great story you'll have to tell about all of the items in the new house.

  8. I love that yellow, so happy. We need as much happy as we can get so if it comes to us in the form of a broken lamp that we can fix, I say take it!

My BB used to do that and I never figured out why because it's random. I could understand if it was in every picture but it never was.

  10. Ok, You get extra points for rescuing so much garbage - I love that you are saving items from the disgusting shack - and turning them into such obvious pieces of style! I love the legs on the table - leave the yellow!

Good luck with your dream cottage. I am living out my dream (quitting our jobs and moving to an island) right now - everyone has to has dreams. Thanks for sharing yours.

  11. The legs are great, don't paint them! Great job, I can totally see it in a beach house ;)

  12. Random, but I found the exact same mixer, which you have, at a thrift store for/with my wife. I disassembled, cleaned, oiled, painted, and reassembled it. Hers is a flat avocado/green color but is the exact same thing! They're heavy duty, I'm a fan. Awesome blog as well; I found it via your pallet wall which is incredible. Well done.

  13. i like thinking about the link between the person who once glued that cracked yellow base and you. something carries on and then the way that you blog and share your spirit with us-is yet another synapse started from who knows where and will carry on to who knows where and when. bully for you! (as in: go, katy!!)

About Me

My photo
For many years I was a mechanical engineer by day, a house renovator by night, and a single mom. I previously built a tiny house on Tybee Island that I sold in 2015. Then I lost my day job, met Prince Charming, and now work full time demolishing (fixing) his lake house. ;) Stop by for the house stuff, stay for the never-ending disasters, pianos falling out of the sky, floods, threats of financial ruin, & panic attacks. It's like house flipping meets the zombie apocalypse! with lots of kids!
